23-year-old Trini sprinter, Richard Thompson, has pulled off an upset over favourites Jamaican Asafa Powell (who finished fifth)and American Walter Dix (who finished third) to claim the silver medal in the men's 100m at the Beijing Olympics.
Trinidad & Tobago's Thompson finished second with 9.89 after 21-year-old Jamaican gold medalist Usain Bolt's world record-breaking time of 9.69. Countryman Marc Burns finished seventh.
Thompson's Olympic silver is the 13th Olympic medal for Trinidad and Tobago.
In other Trinbago track and field news, neither Kelly-Ann Baptiste (women's 10om) and Cleopatra Borel-Brown (women's shot put) qualified for their event finals.
